The teams aim was to match the performance of the previous month at Three Sisters where Jonny took the win in juniors and James took the win in seniors. Little did we know that this meeting would actually prove to be more successful that the last one.
In juniors DSG had three representatives, Jonny Hadfield, Ryan Hadfield and Luke Bennett. All three had fantastic heats with Jonny taking two wins and Luke one win. Luke held pole position for the final from Ryan in second and Jonny in third. At the start of the race Jonny and Ryan came together which forced both down the order. Luke took the lead and had a pack of karts on his tail throughout.
Early on it was obvious that the straight was offering some unreal slipstreaming as the head wind was really strong. The lead changed numerous times and pretty quickly Jonny joined the lead pack. During the entire race the lead was swapped every lap with Jonny and Luke going into the final lap in the top two positions. Jonny managed to switch back on Luke coming out of the hairpin and hold onto the win.
Ryan struggled to gain on the lead pack due to pressure put on him due to the head wind and being unable to break the tow on the following driver, he also suffered with carburation problems however kept his head high and learnt a lot from the weekend. Luke put in his best performance to date and put in a mature drive, commanding from the front during the entire race. Sadly for him it wasn't his lap to lead and Jonny took the advantage. Jonnys performance was outstanding as he showed real pace and determination to catch the lead pack and then take the win, setting the fastest lap along the way as well. Well done to all three.
In seniors James had a fantastic test day. He managed to out-perform his rivals all day and showed consistency throughout. Going into racing James settled for second throughout the heats not wanting to show his cards too much. This put him second on the grid for the final.
The final was one of the best to watch all season. Initally Alex Thomas in the lead and James in second broke away from Sam Taylor in third. Alex then began to pull a lead on James and as it stood looked as though he was on for the win, however Sam Taylor decided to put in a real charge. He caught and passed James and continued to chase Alex. In doing so he pulled along James. Sam then went for the move on Alex for the lead and James followed through. Straight away James then took the lead from Sam and defended for a short while. This meant Alex could find a way past Sam which allowed for James to build a gap which he managed to the end of the race to take a fantastic win and his second in a row.
Overall the weekend was a huge success. All drivers put in fantastic performances that they should all be proud of and the team took another bag of trophies home. We all look forward to the last round next month.
